   I might be completely wrong here, but see the "readdir_r considered
   harmfull" article [1] and recent discussion [2], [3] on the lcg-rollout
   ML (see rest of the thread for context).

You win some and you lose some.  I understand the problem, but it
doesn't sound like there's really a safe way around it, since
KPhotoAlbum is threaded.
