I just changed the version number to 1.0.98, essentially meaning
we are in 1.1 release candidate mode.

My current plans are to tag and release 1.1 on 9 Jan (1 week from today).
If this date isn't ok with you, please let us all know about it.

Also please send your highlights for changes made since 1.0 so we
can add it to the release announcement.
